Contest Total Housing Competition 2010 looking for an apartment building for New York. This should have a radical conceptual proposal and be innovative in its program, the use of materials and technologies. We present the winning project called The Stairscraper Spanish office Nabito Architecture.
The need for greater density in the form of living of the future, the need to release land for other uses and maximizing infrastructure are part of the foundation of the project. The search Parsnip meet these objectives is by going beyond the “boxes” in which cities are inhabited by designing a building in a spiral with a minimal footprint and patios for each apartment.
The housing overlay green roofs 360 ° up the building, roofs thus become the playground of the upper house. The spiral design delivers natural light to the departments and different views for each of them. Its thinness allows light to pass to the lower levels and the street.
Each floor is a unit, so its density is more suited to the periphery. Parsnip also proposed for the countryside, where they deliver the suburban experience without the need for major earthworks.
